A new (and sustainable) path to high performance

If you have any desire to discover the cutting edge path to high performance, and you like to both excel in life (fully on your own terms) AND you like to live life on the edge of acceptability, this book is a must read.
Stealing Fire is the answer for those of us tired of much of the BS being delivered by the personal development industry, the schooling system, and traditional notions of success. We've known there is something more, and now Jamie and Steven show us, we've been right. I do believe this book is the proof we've been waiting for that we are just the right kind of crazy. Read it and weep. I literally had tears at the end because I felt so much hope for the future. And in today's current reality, that's no simple feat.

It is so good to have science backed information in simple understandable terms

I am about halfway done with this book may I even say Godsend. There are so many experiences in my life that I can never share with conservative family or friends because I am seen as crazy. It is so good to have science backed information in simple understandable terms. This is finally a side of myself that I can begin to share with loved ones who are more about the facts. I see this book as a huge tool to understand ourselves and our connection to everyone and everything around us. Thank you Steven and Jamie for making this work and sharing it with the world. Your work and book legitimizes the pursuit of flow which means so much to me since I have personally felt like an outsider for different views or ambitions. Great Stuff!

Brain buzz for days!

I feel like Jamie Wheal and Steven Kotler took all of my experiential knowledge on altered states of consciousness, validated it, and formatted it into a solid foundation upon which I can build with consistency and smarts. This absolutely stellar read is thoughtfully written and chock full of information that is both intellectually stimulating and actionable. I love that they really went there and shattered cultural taboos surrounding playing with human consciousness.
In terms of constructive criticism, I considered giving it 4 stars because of my concerns around what happens when we start quantifying the mystery. Will we lose the magic in life? In the book they talk about yoga as a tool to alter consciousness and, as a yoga teacher reading this, I was worried that the practice could be lost once we start breaking it down into pieces for specific end results (or even replacing it entirely with technology) rather than seeing the practice as wholistic and requiring of dedication. For me, the practice of yoga extends far beyond tinkering with consciousness, and provides a whole host of other benefits to body and character. They say 30+ years of meditation is no longer necessary, but isn't there beauty in the struggle? Do we need EVERYTHING to move at exponential speeds? They do make a solid case that yes, the evolution of consciousness should. I dont know the answer, but the latter chapter on ethics and caution did ease my concerns.
All of that being said, this book had my brain buzzing with connections since Chapter One, and I have not been able to stop talking about it - so 5 starts it is! My only remaining criticism is that the audio book should have been read by Jamie because he has such a soothing and engaging speaking voice :)
Bottom line - this book is validating the peak experiences of masses of people and giving them context and framework to start sharing and going deeper.
